Winter 2012-13 Playlist

Better Weather - Twin Atlantic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZJMU8C8Kk0
  • A song that expresses exactly what my heart yearns for at this time of year. The perfect song for staying snuggled up in bed, watching the rain rapidly fall onto your window. What makes Twin Atlantic unique is certainly the strong Scottish accent and it is almost a crime to not imitate it when singing along!
Best Of Friends- Palma Violets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHOIAtv2Oyk
  • Interestingly labelled the 'alternative boy band', this group of boys from London may have a slightly creepy edge to their voice but sure know how to make a catchy chorus. With brilliant guitar solos it is a song that will leave you bursting with energy.
'Til My Heart Stops Beating - Joe Brooks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkEqsQ774_I
  • I have had a live recording of this song on my ipod for a while and, like most songs, I was hoping that the studio version would be just as good as usually I am a sucker for a live performance. Captivating and endearing, the drum beat at the beginning of the song cleverly resembles a heartbeat leading on to soulful background vocals and Joe's beautiful voice. The jazzy song includes acoustic guitar with piano that gives it a funky element in places. Definitely buy the song on itunes and support Joe, especially as he is feeling down after being seriously ill in the past couple of weeks.
Lighthouse - Mallory Knox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOtwSPOdvGQ
  • After making a huge impact on the rock music scene in late 2012 with their tune 'Wake Up', Mallory Knox exploded into 2013 with 'Lighthouse' proving that they are destined for big things this year. 'Lighthouse' has an unforgettable chorus and the song has a lot of depth to it, the enchanting electric guitar during the verses reminds me of snow or rain falling.
These Kids Wear Crowns- Break It Up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dkls6R8IAs
  • This Canadian band put a fun twist on rock music with this joyful song. It was a song that I instantly loved and a great party jam. The highlight of the song for me is when the guitar briefly cuts out for 'break break break break it up'. The backing vocals resemble a crowd of people singing along and this will definitely happen if this song is played in a public place as they repetitive lyrics makes it easy to sing a long.
Moments - Action Item http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgQqq295cwM
  • Action Item's new album is most certainly a must have with songs ranging from pop to rock to 'Drake' style RnB. 'Moments' sounds very similar to 'Free Falling' by John Mayer but with much sweeter lyrics and a more uplifting chorus. The line 'dont ever stop fighting for what sets your heart free' is a personal favourite and I think it is a climatic part of the song.
Latch - Disclosure featuring Sam Smith http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93ASUImTedo
  • Remarkably different from all of my other song recommendations, 'Latch' is a garage/dance tune that grabbed my attention from the first few beats. The song has powerful chorus and really good electric sounds. It holds a lot of memories for me but I think it can possibly be appealing for fans of lots of different genres because its such a great party anthem. The song has been storming the charts in the UK this winter and I think Disclosure are bringing garage back in all the right ways.
Love For Fame - Franko http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYgYljuf2HI
  • 99% of British teenage girls know who I mean when I say 'Dave The Laugh' from the rom-com 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' but not many of these girls will know that the cutie from the movie is now in an epic rock band. His mature vocals are similar to the lead singer of 'Muse'. This single has a music video set at Christmas so I think that this song on my winter playlist is a necessity. The song has quite a relaxed, chill verses which escalate into an energised, explosive chorus. With heavy head-banging guitar, an interesting twist on popular rock music and a gorgeous lead singer, Franko are a band that I need to see live in 2013 (just try to forget about the 'nunga nunga' loving Dave).
I Wanna Love You (Akon cover) - The Maine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6hxhLzPTR8
  • This song is proof that some covers can be better than the original, especially as this version is almost unrecognisable if you are unaware it is a cover. With a sensual beginning and classic The Maine guitar instantly swaps the song from RnB to pop/punk. John O'callaghan has a voice that can make your knees go weak however he puts an innocent vibe into a very sexual song.
Everything Has Changed - Taylor Swift (featuring Ed Sheeran) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQGbK45y2jE
  • Honestly, my feelings on Taylor Swift change quite frequently nevertheless there is no denying she is a very talented song-writer. Consequently, when it was announced she was teaming up with one of the most sensitive, beautiful song-writers in the UK at the moment, Ed Sheeran, expectations were sky-high for a mind-blowing song. When it was released, I was a bit disapointed due to the fact I feel like Taylor's vocals overpower Ed's and although the song is really good, it is not revolutionary. However, I included it in this playlist because with a new season brings change and new feelings so I thought it was fitting. Also, I still have a lot of love for this tender, sincere song.
